However, amidst the controversy, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has claimed the opposite.

According to the report of Maldives media sun.mv, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators says that India’s efforts to develop and promote the tourism sector of Lakshadweep are supported by Maldives. There will be no expected adverse impact on the tourism industry.

Dispute started between India and Maldives

Actually, PM Modi had recently visited Lakshadweep. During this, PM Modi had shared beautiful pictures of Lakshadweep and appealed to Indians to include this union territory in their tourist destination list. After this, many people on social media had claimed that this would be a shock for Maldives.

Enraged by this claim by Indians on social media, many leaders of Maldives had made fun of PM Modi’s visit on social media and made derogatory remarks against him. After this #BoycottMaldives started trending on social media. Many big personalities and users claimed that they have canceled their trip to Maldives.

Opportunities will arise in both the sectors- MATATO

MATATO condemned the leaders who made controversial statements. The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators stated that efforts to develop and promote the tourism sector of the Lakshadweep Islands have no apparent negative impact on the Maldivian tourism industry, adding that such development would prove complementary to Maldivian tourism, thereby enhancing both Opportunities will arise for the regions.

“The synergy between the two destinations can enhance the overall attraction for passengers and encourage more cruise liners to explore this vibrant and culturally rich region,” MATATO said in a statement. MATATO also stressed the importance of promoting positive relations with all countries, including its South Asian neighbours. He said, collaborative efforts and open communication are necessary to ensure friendly relations, trade and cultural exchange between the countries.
